End-of-year events highlights from across the district

The end of the school year is always filled with fun events at schools across the district. Here are a few events that have taken place at elementary schools over the last few weeks!

Basswood Elementary School Decathalon

On Friday, May 30 and Monday, June 2, students in all grades at Basswood participated in a Decathlon. The students competed in a variety of activities, including a 40 yard dash, shuttle run, hurdles, javelin throw, relay race, potato sack race, long jump, water balloon shot put, football kick and goal kick.

Birch Grove School for the Arts Peep sculpture contest

Birch Grove School for the Arts’ fifth grade students flexed their creative muscle with a Peep sculpture contest. The students created 32 Peep sculptures in total, some working individually and others in groups to make creative scenes featuring Peeps. The school’s student body then got to view the gallery of sculptures and vote for their favorites.

Cedar Island and Park Brook elementary schools’ egg drops

With the help of local fire departments, Cedar Island and Park Brook fourth graders put their STEM skills to the test with egg drops at their respective schools on May 29 and 30. Working individually or in teams, students built contraptions to keep their eggs from breaking, using a variety of materials.

Edinbrook Elementary School field day

Edinbrook Elementary School students participated in field day activities May 30, with outdoor games and activities for students to enjoy throughout the day.

Elm Creek Elementary School Super Kids Day and barbeque

Elm Creek Elementary School was the place to be on May 22 as families gathered to watch their students participate in a variety of activities for Super Kids Day, including hurdles, agility courses, ring toss and a ball toss game, and enjoyed lunch together at a barbeque.

Fair Oaks Elementary School Super Kids Day

Fair Oaks students celebrated the end of the school year with Super Kids Day on May 30. Students enjoyed a variety of games and activities taking place throughout the school grounds.

Fire station and fire truck visits (multiple sites) 

Four Star Express prekindergarten students had the opportunity to learn about fire safety, fire trucks, fire stations and ask firefighter’s questions. Special thank-you to Brooklyn Park and Maple Grove Fire Departments for visiting with students at schools or at fire stations and sharing your expertise with students and staff.

Kidstop school-age care Talent Show at Fernbrook Elementary School 

On May 28, Fernbrook Elementary students wowed the crowd of their parents, caregivers and staff during an after-school talent show put on by Kidstop in the school gym. The show featured talented student dancers, musicians and singers. Attendees watching in the audience cheered in celebration of each student.

Osseo Area Learning Center Spring Week

The Osseo Area Learning Center celebrated their spring spirit week in early May, with dress up days including 1900s day, jersey day, anything but a backpack day, character day and OALC spirit wear day. The last day of the week, students and staff gathered to participate in a number of activities, like basketball and Bingo.

Osseo Senior High School PBIS event

In early May, students and staff at Osseo Senior High School (OSH) came together for a schoolwide rock-paper-scissors tournament, hosted by the Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports (PBIS) team. The event fostered meaningful connections, boosted school spirit and strengthened the sense of community. Energized by its success, OSH looks forward to hosting more engaging PBIS events throughout the next school year.

Park Center Senior High School spring carnival

Park Center Senior High School held an expansive school carnival May 23, with activities spanning both indoors and out. Students were able to participate in many fun carnival events. Games included soccer, volleyball, can jam, beanbags, sack races, and flag football; many creative options were available such as balloon animals, pennant and bracelet making, puzzles and face painting; and other activities like pieing staff members and food trucks.

Rush Creek Elementary School field day

The grounds of Rush Creek Elementary School were filled with laughter, cheers and competition on May 29 as students participated in a variety of field day events in front of their families, including kickball, an obstacle course, hurdles, hop sack, tick-tac-toe and a parachute game.

Woodland Elementary School food truck and family dance night

Woodland Elementary School hosted a food truck and family dance night May 21 that featured a deejay, several food trucks and a book fair for students and their families to enjoy together.

End of the year school BBQs (multiple sites)
